Hiking in Garmisch

Valentine's Day Weekend in Garmisch with my Valentine Maggie

Maggie and I took the train down to Garmisch for a day of hiking. I was in charge and Maggie was along for the fun this time. We had beautiful weather and really enjoyed the hike.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics. It is also home to Germany's tallest mountain, Zugspitze.

We couldn't figure out how to get across the fields and railroad track over to the skiing and hiking area so we just decided to cut across the field. Of course I saw this as a perfect opportunity for a snow angel. I don't think I have done one of those for 15 or 20 years.
I forgot to put on my gloves first though, a little out of practice I guess.
We sat in a snow bank to eat our lunch and I told Maggie all about the house on top of a mountain that I someday want to own.

We walked through a beautiful gorge, Partnachklamm, that was filled with snow, large icicles, a small river.
The ice appeared to be different colors depending on how much light was shining through.
The further we walked into the gorge, the prettier it got.
The Partnachklamm is not open during the early Spring because of the thousands of melting and falling icicles.
After we exited the gorge, this is the view back into it.
Our view of the mountains when we exited the gorge.

After the gorge, we continued our hike up the mountain. We decided to take a break half way up and I thought it was a perfect time to jump into the thigh-deep snow.

Getting back onto the trail was a little tricky with the barbed wire fence.

I had a great Valentine's Day weekend with my München Mädel Maggie. :)
